Gata de Gorgos
is a funky inland village of the Marina Alta which sits on the banks of the river Gorgos, also called the river Jalon.

It is a small market town located on the northern Costa Blanca set inland in-between the inland towns of Pedreguer and Teulada.

Its traditional craft of producing goods from esperto grasses, wicker and palms made this small town famous. The streets are full of antiques shops and craft shops.

The goods are displayed on the street creating an interesting mixture of colours and shape and resulting in a peculiar sight. The town is indeed the ‘bazaar’ of the Costa Blanca and Gata de Gorgos is the place to go for shopping. The high street is cluttered with basket ware, handicrafts and goods. You can experience here the art of the craftsman at work while producing goods of baskets, hats, table mats and furniture. At the end of September many tourists come here to attend a famous artisan fair which is worth a visit!

Gata de Gorgos is also known for producing guitars and ceramic works, but it is the Moscatel grapes which gave the population its bread and butter. Using very traditional methods from Muslin times, the grapes are transformed into the notable Moscatel Raisins.

The market day in Gata de Gorgos is on a Friday, with many stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other locally-made goods and produce to taste!
